William Jenack’s auction of December 9th will be offering a private collection of nautical items, U.S. Postal Service Duck Stamps, Chinese works of art, 19-20th century works of art, jewelry, furniture, bronzes, Oriental rugs and carpets, antique and decorative accessories.
Fine art offerings to include and oil on canvas “Monterey” by John Christen Johansen (American 1876-1964/signed and inscribed verso, ca. 1911); oil on Masonite “Three Tall Houses” by Tusnelda Sanders (Danish/American 1898-1975); oil on canvas “Road to Rock Harbor” by Bruce K. Mitchell (American/Keene, NY 1933-1995); oil on panel, American School 20th century “Cygnus” signed Kimball; mix media ink and gouache on paper, untitled abstract, attributed to Franz Kline, signed, (American 1910-1962); acrylic enamel on mirror, “Frattali” by Michelangelo Pistoletto (Italian 1933-); oil on canvas, nude study after Sigmund Menkes (Polish/American 1896-1986); graphite and colored pencil study for Russian Venus by Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev (Russian 1878-1927).
Furnishing lots include a custom made Deco Style inlaid maple double pedestal dining table, a set of 10 designer custom upholstered dining chairs, designer modern Lucite swivel stool, English Aesthetic carved walnut armchair, pair of Harry Bertoia for Knoll International chrome and steel diamond lounge chairs, Continental grain painted dome top trunk dated “1823”, Anglo-Indian carved mahogany day bed, vintage oak octagonal 80 drawer revolving hardware cabinet, ”Merrick’s” oak mechanical spool cabinet circa 1897.
Chinese works to be offered fine pair of paneled cloisonné vases, Blanc de Chine multi arm porcelain deity, Famille Jaune covered vase bearing Kang Hsi mark, pair of Rose Mandarin decorated covered jars, bronze figure of seated Buddha, peaches decorated porcelain vase bearing Yung Cheng mark, carved brass censer, Han dynasty terra cotta model of a domicile with well, pair of Han dynasty tomb figures, Han dynasty terra cotta figure of a man and fish, carved Cinnabar tri-foot censer on stand and a pair of pottery bird form water droppers.
For those with a historical nautical interest Jenack will be offering a custom cherry and mahogany ship’s wheel table with the wheel having been salvaged from the U.S.S. Noma, a private steam yacht owned by Vincent Astor and loaned to the U.S. Navy in 1917, it was outfitted and used to protect shipping lanes during WW I, decommissioned in 1919 and returned to Astor; a massive Kelving & Hughes brass and mahogany ship’s compass binnacle from the 1940’s and a U.S. Navy (John E. Hand & Sons) Model 18-M-6 cast iron and bronze navigational sounding machine circa 1942 and others.
